1940'S MEDICINE CHEST

THE BRIEF
As my second project in college I was asked to create a film prop which was pre 1940's with a Scottish influence.

The materials are a combination of plywood, pre- bought glass bottles, jars, hinges, handles and locks.

It took two months to make and finish the model.
CONSTRUCTION
Plywood was used to construct the entire box; the main shell, the shelves, separators and drawers.

Two long drawers with separators and two smaller square drawers were made out of thinner plywood.

Bottles and jars were filled with a variety of coloured water and powders. These jars also had handmade labels and lid covers made from stained paper.

PAINTING AND FINISHING
The plywood was painted a light brown colour then had a satin varnish applied.

Final details were added such as a large leather handle, a clasp lock, drawer handles, hinges and a name plate made from card and painted to look like worn metal.
